§ 13-60. Definitions.

  • As used in this article, the following terms shall have the respective meanings ascribed to them:

    Bingo and keno: Games commonly known by those designations played for prizes with cards bearing numbers or other designations, five (5) or more in one (1) line, the holder covering numbers, as objects, similarly numbered, which are drawn from a receptacle, the game being won by that person who first covers a previously designated arrangement of numbers on such a card.

    Charitable organization: A nonprofit, veterans, eleemosynary, benevolent, educational, religious, fraternal or civic and service association or corporation domiciled in this state, which has qualified with the United States Internal Revenue Service as an exempt organization under sections 501(c)(3), (4), (8), or (19) of the Internal Revenue Code, and which is located in the municipality, has its regular meeting place in the municipality, holds at least seventy-five (75) percent of its meetings in the municipality, and at least fifty (50) percent of the active members of which reside in the parish.

    Games of chance: Raffles, bingo, keno and pull tabs as defined herein.

    Pull tabs: Single or banded tickets or cards, each with its face covered to conceal one (1) or more numbers or symbols, where one (1) or more cards or tickets in each set has been designated in advance as a winner.

    Raffles: Games played by drawing for prizes or the allotment of prizes by chance or by the selling of shares or tickets or rights to participate in such games by conducting the games accordingly.
