§ 8-68. Same—Political signs.

  • (a)

    The placing of political signs, posters, or placards on or along the public right-of-ways in the municipality hereby is prohibited.

    (b)

    A sign, poster, or placard shall be considered political if it advocates the election of any candidate for public office or advertises or directly relates to any proposed ordinance, law, constitutional amendment, or any other issue to be decided by the electorate.

    (c)

    The municipality shall remove all political signs, posters, or placards found to be in violation of this section. Where such sign, poster, or placard advocates the election of any candidate for public office, that candidate shall be assessed five dollars ($5.00) for each sign, poster, or placard removed under the terms of this section. Where the sign, poster, or placard advertises or directly relates to any proposed ordinance, law, constitutional amendment, or any other issue to be decided by the electorate, the political committee or person placing such sign, poster, or placard shall be assessed five dollars ($5.00) for each sign, poster, or placard in violation of this section and removed by the municipality.

    (d)

    No provision of this section shall be construed to prohibit the placing of political signs, posters, or placards upon private property not a public street, sidewalk, or other public right-of-way.
