§ 7-1. Court established.

  • (a)

    There is hereby established a mayor's court for the municipality which shall have exclusive original jurisdiction over all offenses and complaints arising under the Code and ordinances. The court may punish for contempt and may issue subpoenas and warrants. The court shall be convened in suitable quarters to be provided by the governing body.

    (b)

    The presiding officer of the court shall be the mayor, or in the mayor's absence, the mayor pro tem. The mayor may try all breaches of this Code and other municipal ordinances and impose fines or imprisonment, or both, as provided for the violation.
