§ 2-39. Composition of department.

  • (a)

    The police department shall consist of the chief of police and as many police officers as may be deemed necessary by the mayor and board of aldermen for the safety and good order of the municipality.

    (b)

    The chief of police may appoint one police officer to serve as assistant chief of police, such appointment subject to approval by the mayor and board of aldermen. The assistant chief of police shall serve as a police officer but shall assist the chief of police in his duties and in the absence of the chief of police perform the duties of the chief of police.
